We know the reasons why we all are pursuing sustainability in our daily lives. By reducing cost and waste we will not only be contributing to a healthy environment to live in but by giving back to the mother earth.
Our responsibility towards mother nature is to retain its natural resources and hand it over to our coming generations in its as real form as possible. Sustainability is saving resources for future generation and leaving a natural and breathable environment behind. Sustainability in textile stipulates production which is low in cost, uses less natural resources and producing textile which is not only eco-friendly but have an βafter-lifeβ too.
Biodegradable and recyclable fabric should be the ultimate goal of textile industry so it can be used by coming generations as well. Organic cotton fabrics which are produced using non-GMO seeds and grown without chemical based fertilisers or pesticides are the best alternative for synthetic fabrics. There is no soil-erosion of land in growing cotton so it is good for the environment as well. Some other fabrics are bamboo fabric, banana fabric, hemp fabric, linen, silk and other plant based fabrics.
All these sustainable filers are biodegradable so it can be used as renewable resource for making fabrics and other by-products. Mohari makes sure that its sustainable production is healthy for people and planet. We use printing technique that requires less water in production in compare to other techniques.
Mohariβs colours and textile binders are sourced from the brand that makes non-toxic and skin-friendly chemicals for textile industry.
Therefore our printing is AZO-free and complies with REACH norms too and our fabric is GOTS certified. Finally, here comes the biggest issue of the textile industry which is βwasteβ or scrap of fabric. Up to a million tons of textile waste goes into landfills every year in India which is 8.5% of total waste globally. This waste is not only limited to fabric scraps but also contains wastes like plastic waste from containers, drums, net, etc, textile binders or chemicals that goes into the drain after use which is not biodegradable and very toxic in nature, air pollution caused in the process of dyeing and washing which leaves gases that contain formaldehyde, ammonia, etc.
The only problem why this pollution is not controlled in India is because there is no strict government policy but lots of companies like us are considering taking an action on this to control waste, Mohari does not use toxic chemicals or colours. Now the Indian hand block printing process has many different techniques to print. Ours need the least water throughout the process.
We reuse and recycle our smallest fabric piece as well to make them in scrunchies, small bags, patch work fabrics and quilts, patch work dresses, table or kitchen linen, braided dhurries, and a lot of beautiful daily life hand block printed products. We make sure each of the fabric scrap can be used in something and nothing goes in waste. We all have to work together without someone telling us or putting us under restrictions towards a better and sustainable living.
