Every stamped artistically driven finery that Mohari proudly exports have a deeper story of hard work and initiation rooted in them. Each piece is hand-crafted by treasured women artisans from the underprivileged quarters of India.
Mohari does not limit itself to acknowledging the plight of women from marginalized communities in India but goes on to bring them to the forefront of economical upliftment. The socially active brand started off by bringing in women from different walks of life facing difficulties that stemmed from being a woman and their inability to provide for their own families.
We wanted to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities and become a truly sustainable fashion front. The artisans associated with Mohari each have a story of breaking several shackles to be where they are now. And it all started when they first trusted us to bring about change in their lives.
Mohari successfully addressed grassroots problems and took into account the needs and aspirations of each of the women it associated with to map out a course of action that brought about betterment at a greater and individual level.
Amidst the several challenges posed before them, the social entrepreneurship of Mohari acted as a ray of sunshine, allowing empowerment to seep in. The primary reason the women of Jaipur agreed to step out and earn was to ease the stressful financial conditions in their families.
The pressure to keep the family members afloat fell on them after either losing their husbands or choosing to step out of an abusive marriage. So, every day they shuffle between household chores, welfare, education of their children and themselves, and sustaining a family. This is just the tip of the iceberg for our artisans!
The crux of the vision of Mohari is to embolden Indian women and give their many abilities a platform. So Mohari chose to become a reason for them to find a sense of purpose, a reason to wake up each day, and a stable employment that has brought significant change in the artisans’ lives.
The Mohar of Strength
With their first exposure to a job came newborn confidence, a better standing in the community, and the financial ability to support their families. The women of Mohari now aspire to transform their children’s and their own lives through education. And these personal aspirations play a consequential role in everything Mohari does as an organization.
Our artisans today claim to have a better standard of living and easy access to resources. Things that seemed like a luxury are now reeling as basics to them like opening bank accounts, using mobile phones, and filling their own forms. It’s a two-way street of excelling when we talk of the women of Mohari and Mohari’s success. Our relationship is not that of surface-level professionalism, it is deeper and emotional, and it has impacted their lives significantly, improving their overall well-being.
Mohari simply acts as the small window of opportunity which is all that is needed to put the vigor, drive, and enthusiasm of the women in India into action and create magic. It is a family of individuals who are motivated by the little things surrounding them, living big lives with smaller joys. It has been, although not short of struggles and hardships, a fruitful and enriching journey. But it has just begun and this is nowhere near the end.
We wish to empower them with information and access to knowing how to handle finances better, educate them with health, medical plans, their legal rights, and fill many such gaps. The idea is to make them confident of being in their skin by empowering them.
After all, we all together will bring this vision to life, as a family, as a team!
